Optical metrology is widely used in industry to evaluate the physical properties of complex pieces or some of their parts or components. It includes a set of inspection technologies which involves the measurement and detection of light reflecting or passing by the element under inspection at one or various angles. The advantages of optical metrology make it a great solution in very different applications for inspection, quality control and process control purposes. They are non-contact, non-destructive, accurate, fast and reliable. Different technologies can be used to perform optical measurements (interferometry, confocal microscopy, spectroscopy, ellipsometry, reflectrometry…) and the range of parameters monitored is also very wide. They can measure dimensions or roughness of manufactured parts, thickness of layers and coatings, properties of light sources and displays… for markets such as automotive, consumer electronics or optics and micro-optics manufacturers. The new developments allow to measure bigger sizes and angles, obtain results with higher resolution and accuracy, or integrate those devices in robotic arms for in-line measurements.
In this online meeting, we will discuss about the latest requirements and challenges of the industry related with the measurement and characterization of their final products and the new developments proposed by the manufacturers. We will also focus in the trend of combining metrology solutions with robotic arms and high precision movement systems to integrate them in the manufacturing process and perform inline measurements.
