Ophthalmologists use to deal with the diagnosis and treatment of very different eye disorders: presbyopia, myopia, high order aberrations, cataract, eye tumors, glaucoma… Photonic technologies have revolutionized this field, with different methods such as optical coherence tomography or corneal topography for the diagnosis and new laser sources for surgical treatments and photodynamic therapies. In this meeting we will cover the emerging photonics technologies in this field, and we will also understand the evolution of the existing techniques to cover the demands of the new applications. Imaging technologies and devices (OCT, OCE, multiphoton microscopy…) for diagnosis and laser-based technologies such as LASIK, LIRIC or retinal surgery will be discussed with the whole supply chain to find new ways of collaboration and develop more effective eye-surgery treatments.

Csilla Timar-Fulep is an Application Engineer Team Lead for Optics Photonics Workflows at Ansys, specialized in healthcare and vision science applications. She graduated as a physicist with a PhD from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary, where her research focused on developing neuro-physiological vision models. Since 2020, Csilla has been focusing on optical design and simulation technologies in the medical industry at Ansys / Zemax.
Francisco Alba-Bueno is a Senior Principal Optical Engineer at Bausch + Lomb, where he supports the R&D team in the development and evaluation of intraocular lenses (IOLs) and surgical technologies. He holds a degree in Optics and Optometry from the University of Granada, complemented by advanced studies in Optometry and Vision Science, and earned his PhD in Optical Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC).
Francisco has authored more than 10 peer-reviewed publications and his work has been cited over 400 times, reflecting his sustained contribution to the fields of optics and visual science. With over a decade of clinical experience as an optometrist, he transitioned into the ophthalmic industry in 2016, focusing on the intersection of medical affairs, product development, and applied research. Since May 2024, he has been instrumental in integrating optical modeling, clinical insights, and bench testing into B+L’s IOL innovation pipeline.
