EPIC Online Technology Meeting on Earth Observation
Online Event

Monitoring our planet from satellites and planes using photography, imaging in various wavelengths, lidar and other optical sensing technologies is and will be more and more important for the next decades. Those technolgies provide data that help dealing with climate change and forecast, monitoring of urban change to agriculture and many other areas. This meeting gathers the key players in the related supply chain. We will target in supporting collaborations and connecting the end-users with the photonics community.

Speakers

Product Group Manager, Aerospace and Specialty Optics – custom optical filters and arrays for EO

Fabrizio Preda studied Physics Engineering in Politecnico di Milano, where he worked as a research fellow for 5 years after receiving his Master’s degree in 2015. He is author of several peer-reviewed articles and co-inventor of three international patents. Since 2018, he is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at NIREOS (www.nireos.com), a start-up and official spin-off company of Politecnico di Milano. NIREOS develops novel devices in the spectroscopy and photonics sector, both for the scientific and the industrial market.

NIREOS SRL is a deep-tech start-up and spin-off company of Politecnico di Milano University, with offices, laboratories, and research facilities in Milan (Italy).

Physicist, have worked in selling optical components since 1991 with Hamamatsu ( 15years), Newport (3 years) and now with Materion Balzers Optics for 12 years.

Jiří Pavlík is R&D Director in STRATOSYST. He has a background of over 12 years of professional experience in design of power systems for telecommunication, solar energy, and energy storage industry and 6 years in research and development of cutting-edge lithium-ion energy storage and battery management system. He specializes in off-grid solar power systems and lithium-ion energy storage systems. He originally set-up STRATOSYST to explore potential of stratosphere for astronomy observation. As he explore the possible markets for HAPS (High Altitude Pseudo Satellites) he changed his focus to Earth Observation and Telco applications and is now working full-time to make his original vision reality.

Founder & Chief Executive Officer at Stratosyst

Ruslan Ivanov, PhD in Optics and Photonics from KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Currently, development engineer in Optronics group at IRnova. Responsible for EO characterization and modelling of the infrared detector structures and their imaging arrays.

Development Engineer at IRnova

William (International Sales Engineer) graduated from Ecole Supérieure d’Optique (Institut d’Optique Graduate School) in 2009 in Optical and Laser Engineering and then received his PhD in 2012 from Ecole Polytechnique in the field of Fiber Lasers. William spent about 15 years in Laser field in various positions from research engineer at ONERA (The French Aerospace Lab.) to research and development Engineer and Manager in industry. William is within HORIBA France since 2022, and thanks to his specific interest in customer relationship and background in business development and innovation, he is developing the business of Custom Gratings for HORIBA.
