Bio-imaging technologies are transforming how biological systems are visualized, quantified, and understood, from the molecular and cellular level to tissues and whole organisms. Rapid progress in photonics, imaging modalities, and data analysis is enabling higher resolution, deeper penetration, faster acquisition, and more functional and multimodal readouts, opening new opportunities across life sciences, healthcare, and biotechnology.
This Technology Meeting will highlight recent advances in this field, including multiphoton and fluorescence microscopy, spectroscopy, multimodal and label-free imaging, OCT, in vivo imaging… New developments in imaging systems, light sources, detectors, optics, and computational approaches will be presented, and we will discuss the emerging applications in biomedical research, diagnostics, drug discovery, or translational medicine.
Arne Seitz (Head BioImaging & Optics Platform) leads the BioImaging & Optics Platform (BIOP) at EPFL, where he enables researchers to access, apply, and capitalize on advanced microscopy technologies. Holding a PhD in biophysical chemistry, he has a long-standing commitment to bridging imaging science and biology, supporting both research infrastructure and education in life-science imaging. Beyond platform leadership and teaching, Seitz is deeply engaged in the broader imaging-core facility community as President of the LS2 Intersection Microscopy, where he helps to build, shape, and sustain Switzerland’s national community for light microscopy.
Dr. Daniel Kraus is a professional in the field of photonics and biotechnology, combining strong technical expertise with strategic and managerial experience. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Friedrich Schiller University Jena and a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena.
Currently, Daniel serves as CEO at Opto GmbH and Director of the OptoGroup, where he leads operations, technology initiatives and innovations. Prior to joining Opto GmbH, Daniel gained extensive cutting-edge research in nanobiophotonics and sensor systems during his time as a research associate at the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT).
Guillermo Solís Fernández, post-doc researcher at the RochaLab (KUL). He has focused my research at the intersection between cancer and mechanics using microscopy and proteomics methods to unravel how the environment affects cancer cell behaviour.
Dr. Ruediger Bader is an expert in scientific imaging and microscopy with 18 years of experience in research, sales, commercial strategy, and product management. He serves as Product Manager Imaging at Hamamatsu Photonics, leading the camera portfolio.
