This online session will explore how advanced optical technologies are revolutionizing direct data links between ground infrastructure and orbit. As satellite data generation rapidly outpaces the capacity of congested RF bands, optical Earth-to-Space communication provides a critical solution, enabling terabit-per-second data rates, freedom from spectrum licensing, and highly secure links for the next generation of space architectures.
The meeting will bring together optical ground station (OGS) operators, adaptive optics specialists, laser component suppliers, and satellite payload integrators to discuss recent breakthroughs in direct-to-Earth optical links. Topics will focus on the unique challenges of atmospheric transmission, including high-power uplink lasers, highly sensitive receivers, and advanced PAT (Pointing, Acquisition, and Tracking) systems. Discussions will cover atmospheric turbulence mitigation through adaptive optics, site diversity networks for weather resilience, daylight operation capabilities, and the deployment of scalable ground-station infrastructure.
From specialized space-qualified transceivers to global networks of optical ground stations, the session will highlight how photonics is breaking the data bottleneck and shaping the future of high-capacity, resilient Earth-to-Space connectivity.
