EPIC Online Technology Meeting on Photonics for Thin Films Fabrication and Characterization
Online Event

Thin films are basically layers of material that are deposited on any surface, using complex chemical and physical deposition techniques, including gas-phase precursors and plasma process. They are widely used in different markets, such as optics, photovoltaics, telecom/datacom, consumer electronics, medical/healthcare or automotive. To support some of the present technological mega-trends and the last requirements of the different sectors, innovative thin-film materials have to be studied, developed and implemented. These new materials also require special developments for their fabrication and specific tools for the characterization of their physical and optical properties.
We invite coating and thin-film manufacturers, machine builders for coating manufacturing, the suppliers of characterization tools and all the end-users of special thin-films to join us to discuss the newest solutions in this field and where are the present challenges and needs.

Speakers

Philippe Soussan is currently Strategic Development Director in charge of the specialty technology portfolio of imec, including photonics and optics.

From 2007 until 2011, he has led the group “Packaging, Microsystems and Hybrid Technology”. The group dealt with complex process integration using 3D interconnects, advanced packaging and micro-systems. In 2011, he became program manager for the smart system division of imec, which mission is to enable novel product in the field of More than Moore, such as sensors and specialty components. In 2019, he was promoted to technology director in the field of optical sensors and devices. Within his function, he is developing novel platforms for integrated photonics and opto-electronics and custom chip scale technology solutions for various markets' maturity.

His background’s expertise covers wafer technology integration in the field of multi-physics devices such as 3D interconnects, micro-fluidics, photonics and opto-electronics.

Program Director Sense & Actuate Business Unit at imec
Founder & CEO at ATLANT 3D

Dr. Ravi K. Saripalli leads the Light Communication Division at the Directed Energy Research Center, Technology Innovation Institute, UAE, specializing in Free Space Optical Communications and light-matter interaction, and backed by prestigious grants and impactful publications.

Senior Researcher at TII

After graduating in Physics at the University of Bari, Marcello Binetti gained his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Essen in 2001 and joined the Fritz-Haber-Institut of the Max Planck Society as postdoc. He joined LayTec in 2004, where he gained a broad experience in semiconductor metrology product support and management, contributing to establish LayTec as a leading provider of effective metrology solutions both in research and production environments. From 2020 he is senior scientist for novel applications at LayTec’s.
