EPIC (European Photonics Industry Consortium) has announced Eric Mottay as the recipient of the 2025 EPIC Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions and leadership in developing ultrafast laser technologies and machine learning in laser micro-processing.
After graduating from École Supérieure d’Optique near Paris in 1985, Eric Mottay specialized in laser development and manufacturing, and in 2001, he founded Amplitude Laser Group. Under his leadership, Amplitude became a global leader in ultrafast lasers, catering to scientific, medical, and industrial applications. The company expanded internationally, establishing subsidiaries in countries such as Germany, the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and China. Amplitude has experienced strong growth in recent years, with revenues reaching between €70 million and €80 million, driven by a workforce of over 400 employees across three continents.
Commenting on the award, Eric Mottay said, “I am honored to receive this recognition from EPIC. Over the past 24 years, Amplitude Laser Group has become the international leader in designing and developing femtosecond laser solutions. In the future I plan to continue my passion for photonics from an engineer’s perspective by focusing on how advanced laser processing and AI can move beyond impressive proofs of concept to deliver real-world applications”.
