Specialty optical fibers have become a key enabling technology for modern sensing, communications and industrial monitoring systems. Their ability to operate in harsh environments, provide highly sensitive and distributed measurements, and support advanced functionalities beyond conventional optical fibers makes them essential for applications in aerospace, energy, telecommunications, manufacturing, healthcare and smart infrastructure. Recent advances in fiber design, including multicore, hollow-core and functionalized fibers, are expanding the capabilities of optical sensing and data transmission, driving innovation in very different areas.

The EPIC Technology Meeting on Specialty Optical Fibers will bring together technology developers, fiber manufacturers, system integrators, end-users and research organizations to discuss the latest advances, challenges and market opportunities in fiber-based sensing and photonic technologies. Particular emphasis will be placed on industrial applications (in markets such as telecom, datacom, aerospace, energy, manufacturingof laser sources…), highlighting how optical fiber technologies are enabling next-generation sensing, monitoring and digitalization solutions. This Technology Meeting will foster knowledge exchange, identify emerging market needs and promote collaboration between stakeholders across the European photonics and industrial ecosystems.
