🔍 Who is Roger Artigas? Roger Artigas is the Presi 🔍 Who is Roger Artigas? Roger Artigas is the President and CTO of Sensofar, a company that specializes in developing optical metrology systems that use light to measure surfaces in 3D with extraordinary precision. Under his leadership, Sensofar has expanded from scientific instruments to solutions used directly in industrial manufacturing and quality control.

💡 What technology is @sensofar developing?
Sensofar develops optical measurement systems that can inspect tiny features without touching them. Their instruments combine technologies such as interferometry, confocal microscopy, and focus variation to create detailed 3D maps of surfaces.

But the company does more than build measurement heads. As Roger explains in the interview, Sensofar also provides software and development tools that allow customers to integrate these sensors into their own machines and automated production lines.

❤️Why does this matter in our daily lives?
One example mentioned by Roger is the inspection of cardiovascular stents.

A stent is a tiny mesh tube implanted inside an artery to keep blood flowing properly. Before it can be used in a patient, manufacturers must ensure that every cut, edge, and surface feature is exactly as designed. Even microscopic defects can affect performance.

Sensofar's optical metrology systems help manufacturers inspect these devices quickly and accurately, contributing to safer medical treatments for millions of people.

✨ This is why photonics is everywhere.

Most people will never see a metrology system, but they may benefit from one during a heart procedure. The same photonic technologies that inspect stents are also used to manufacture semiconductors, medical devices or consumer electronics.

Photonics is becoming the strategic bridge between Photonics is becoming the strategic bridge between semiconductors and quantum technologies, and Europe is moving beyond research funding toward industrial scale up. At the EPIC Technology Meeting on Photonics for Quantum Technologies, hosted at Fraunhofer HHI, industry leaders will discuss how to build the infrastructure needed to scale the quantum ecosystem.

💡 What the meeting is about:
Sessions 1 and 2 will focus on the role of photonics in enabling next-generation quantum technologies, from integrated platforms to scalable manufacturing and industrial adoption.

⚙️ Why it matters:
Europe’s competitiveness in quantum technologies will depend on its ability to connect research, semiconductor capabilities, and photonics manufacturing into a scalable industrial ecosystem.

🌐 Where it’s used:
Quantum communication, quantum sensing, photonic integrated circuits, secure infrastructure, and next-generation computing technologies.

We also thank @singlequantum, Diamond, and @qutechnews for sponsoring this meeting, as well as PhotonHub and OpTecBB for their support.

How can photonics facilities become more sustainab How can photonics facilities become more sustainable and future-ready?
At a recent EPIC event, experts from ONEFAB, 3D AG & CSEM shared real-world ideas that actually work:
•	Flexible, modular cleanrooms instead of rigid setups
•	Start small: insulation, solar panels, data tracking
•	Energy efficiency = big impact (up to ~25% savings!)

The message is clear: sustainability isn’t just goals—it’s smart design, efficiency, and long-term thinking. Thanks to the speakers for turning ideas into real action!
