EPIC’s Special Report on Neuromorphic Сomputing and Sensing by Yole Developpement, 2021

Neuromorphic computing includes many foundational IC components. However, optical solutions – including VCSELs – are attracting attention due to their processing speed, density, and low power consumption. As discussed in EPIC’s “3D Imaging Utilizing VCSELs” report, VCSELs provide a fast, lower cost option for complex image identification. Additionally, VCSELs can be implemented to form Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) , a core of both Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. This report from Yole gives a good background on some of the large (mostly semiconductor) players that make up this market. Know your competitors – and possible partners – because photonic solutions offer great benefits to a market that is beginning a rapid growth phase.
